Have you always wondered what exactly was in your dog’s treats? I wondered every time I would buy them at the store. I felt a little guilty that I was checking all the labels for myself and caring, but I wasn’t checking exactly what my furry friends were eating. This prompted me to start making my own dog treats for my dogs. I have tried so many recipes and they have loved and hated some.
The benefits of this are definitely ease of mind for me. I am not sure if they see a difference or not, but it makes me feel better about myself. I know make my dogs some of the healthiest treats they could possibly have. I have comprised a list of some of my favorite healthy homemade dog treats. These aren’t the only healthy dog treats able to be made at home, but it is a good start.
1. Healthy Homemade Dog Treats: Wholefully
These treats are great for your pup. The ingredients include a lot of things your dog might typically not get by eating store bought food or treats. I especially love this recipe because they make them look like actual dog biscuits. Ingredients included in this recipe are whole wheat four, wheat germ, ground flax seed, eggs, olive oil, unsweetened applesauce, pumpkin puree, and honey.
2. Healthy Homemade Dog Treats: 101cookingfortwo
This is another household favorite treat with my dogs. This one I like because it’s pretty easy to make. I have made this recipe multiple times so its like second nature to whip these ingredients up real quick. Ingredients included in this recipe are canned pumpkin, peanut butter, egg whites or eggs, salt, cinnamon, water, and whole wheat flour.
3. Healthy Pumpkin Dog Treats: Foodwithfeeling
Until I started making healthy homemade dog treats, I never realized home popular pumpkin was in dog treats. Most recipes I make now include some sort of pumpkin puree or filling. These specific healthy pumpkin dog treats contain pureed pumpkin, coconut oil, water, whole wheat flour, cinnamon, baking soda, baking powder, and an egg.
4. Mega Healthy Dog Biscuits (because our furry friends deserve good food, too): Daringgourmet
These are arguably the most healthy treats I make for my dogs. They absolutely love them and there are so many healthy and natural ingredients in them. Ingredients included in these healthy homemade dog treats are whole wheat flour, oats, wheat germ, unsalted sunflower seeds, flax seeds, cinnamon, unsweetened peanut butter, coconut oil, olive oil, fish oil capsules(if your pup can have these), raw honey, and water.
5. Healthy Homemade Dog Treats: Nutritionstripped
This might be the easiest healthy homemade dog treats to make. The prep time is very quick, you just have to cook them for some time. My dogs love these as these are sweet potato based compared to pumpkin based. Ingredients included in this recipe are mashed sweet potatoes, organic peanut butter, eggs, banana, coconut oil, rice flour, baking soda.
I hope you enjoy this list as much as myself and my pups do. These are some of the healthiest homemade dog treats you can make your dog. I feel much better giving them treats, when I give them these homemade treats. I also find it very fun when making them and I think my furry friends know when I am. They tend to sit as close as possible to me and never leave my side. It’s a little thank you to me for making them.
